2007 Summer Vacation Aug 2, 2007 - Malacca, Malayisa

We left from Kuala Lumpur, and heading to Malacca. After driving for two hours, we got Malacca. We visited Malacca few years ago when we were in college year. We decided to visit it again, it's all because of the food here, such Satay(Malay), Chicken rice ball, etc, Yummy!!

Today, Malacca possesses a charm that is all its own. Hail a trishaw for a ride along little streets that wind through a colorful mishmash of architectural styles. Cruise along Melaka river, then walk along hillocks that have tales to tell, of war and treachery, romance and heartbreak.

We took the pictures below
Siting at one end of the town square is the great red front of Christ Church. Built in 1753 as a Dutch Reform church, it was later converted by the British into an Anglican church. Although things were added, many Dutch and Armenian elements remain, including tombstones laid in the floor.

Christ Church Melaka

I can't remember where we took the pictures, I guess somewhere around the Christ Church on town square. It's an old model fire engine.

I took this picture from up hill. It's a pub and restaurant which located at town square. I took this because it's unique architecture.
The most scenic spot in Mekala is up the hill to the ruins of St. Paul's Church, which was originally built by the Portuguese in 1521. The church fell into disuse once the Dutch took over Melaka, and later the site was used to build a lighthouse by the British. Nice shady area to catch a good view of Melaka and the surrounding areas.

Pictured with the tombstone, which is about the Dutch tombstones from 17s and dedicated, mostly to the soldiers.

When visiting Malacca make sure you make the effort to visit this historic site. It is worth the walk up the hill in the heat. This is the original burial site of St. Francis Xavier. The views from here are superb too.

Another shot from uphill to the town square

A' Famosa is another attraction of Melaka.
An iconic image of Melaka. Built by the Portuguese in 1511 as a fortress it sustained severe structural damage during the Dutch Invasion. The British destroyed most of the fort but the intervention by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1808 saved what remains of A' Famosa.

The weather was humid and hot in Malaysia, we decided to take a rest a the shopping mall which is nearby A Famosa. Here are the some pictures we took from the mall.
We enjoyed the sample drink from Starbuck. It's a new flavor summer drink. HooiSin loves it so much and asked for more.

After taking a short break, we continued to explore the town square. Also, we had our tea break at mall. That's was a small pond outside the foodcourt.
Bye Bye A- Famosa!! We left and walk along to the street to another attraction
We took those pictures when we walked along to the street at town square. We took pictures with train, aircraft, etc. Check this out!

Come on Darren!! You looked so silly!! You can't stop it anyway.

Silly!!!

When we talked about the famous food in Melaka, I guess most of you will say Satay and Chicken Rice Ball, that's is why we were there!! Chicken rice is one of my favorite food, I love it so much. I never have chance to have it after I came to United States. However, this trip to Melaka, I definitely can miss my favorite again.

We had our dinner at the famous Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant-- Famosa Chicken Rice Ball--. We really enjoyed it, as we knew we have to try another famous food in Melaka, so we didn't eat much. We saved some room for our another favorite SATAY!!!
We took some pictures while we were waiting for our food to be served. This restaurant is really famous in Melaka. A lot of celebrities came for dinner before. Also, it's a unique architecture with red painting.
Noticed the background. There is a board with a lot of celebrities pictures.
Yummy!!! My favorite-- Chicken rice ball-- Roast pork, BBQ pork served with couple rice ball!! Yummy!!!

One of our favorites is SATAY stick. Although we were full, this is "must try" food when you visit Melaka. We ate a lot delicious food at Melaka. Below is the only picture that we took at the SATAY restaurant.

SATAY sticks with a bowl of special sauce. Yummy!!!
We sure had fun and we ate a lot of good food in Melaka. We arrived Johor safety at midnight.
